A short history
1981
Malmö Aviation is launched. Air-taxi services,
flying training and air freight operations are started during the years
that follow.
1991
Malmö Aviation commences
passenger services to Hamburg and London.
1992
The
Swedish internal market is deregulated and Malmö Aviation starts flying
the Bromma–Malmö and Bromma–Göteborg routes.
1993
Malmö
Aviation in crisis. The Crafoord/Wiklund family take over and inject new
life in the company. Operations continue to grow throughout the 1990s.
1997
Malmö
Aviation designated ‘Best Domestic Airline’ on occasion of Grand Travel
Award.
1998
Braathens ASA acquires Malmö
Aviation. Malmö Aviation is merged with Braathens Sverige and Braathens
Malmö Aviation is formed. The head office is moved to Malmö. At end of
year operations are halved. The Arlanda hub is closed down and the
company now concentrates its internal flights on Bromma.
1999
Braathens
Malmö Aviation is once again designated ‘Best Domestic Airline’ on
occasion of Grand Travel Award. 2000 Braathens Malmö Aviation
concentrates on its Swedish operations and reverts to the name Malmö
Aviation.
2001
SAS acquires Braathens ASA.
Malmö Aviation is excluded from the transaction and once again becomes
an independent company with Per G. Braathen as new owner.
2002
A new flight traffic agreement for Bromma Airport means
that Malmö Aviation can expand its network of destinations. The
Bromma–Umeå [northern Sweden] route is openend. Technical operations are
transferred to a newly built hangar at Sturup Airport in Malmö . This
hangar is the largest and most modern in Europe. Malmö Aviation extends
its offer of services and launches its low-price product ‘Snålskjutsen’.
2003
Malmö
Aviation launches its frequent-flyer programme. With ‘Snålskjutsen’ an
international service between Göteborg and Nice is started. Malmö
Aviation starts three new services to Brussels from Bromma, Göteborg and
Copenhagen, in co-operation with Virgin Express.
2004
Co-operative
arrangement with Virgin Express is concluded and a co-operation is
started instead with SN Brussels Airlines. Malmö Aviation once more
receives the award ‘Best Domestic Airline’ at the Grand Travel Award.
2005
Yellow
Room – our dedicated lounge at Bromma is opened. Express lounges are
opened at both Landvetter and Sturup. Bromma Airport gets a facelift
with new arrival hall and a roof over the walkways between the terminal
building and the aircraft on the apron. Malmö Aviation again designated
‘Best Domestic Airline’ at the Grand Travel Award.
2006
Concentration
on domestic services intensifies with increased number of departures.
Operation of Bromma-Brussels route is transferred to our co-operation
partner SN. Agreement signed with the Swedish Footbal Association and
co-operation starts in connection with the World Cup. Malmö Aviation
awarded title of ‘Best Domestic Airline’ on occasion of Grand Travel
Award.
2007
Malmö Aviation is given the Business Travel
Award for “Best Airline” and the Grand Travel Award for “Best Domestic
Airline.” At the end of the year, the company wins the Web Service Award
in the e-commerce category.
Malmö Aviation strengthens its commitment
to domestic traffic and discontinues the Göteborg-Nice route.
The
number of departures on domestic routes from Bromma to Malmö and
Göteborg is expanded to meet demand.
The Braathens Aviation
Group is formed, with Malmö Aviation one of six subsidiaries. The
technical division and pilot training operations were transferred to
separate companies.
2008
Malmö Aviation wins
the Grand Travel Award in the “Best Domestic Transport Company” category
and is named “Best Airline” by the Business Travel Award.
Malmö
Aviation is the first domestic airline to launch a mobile phone booking
function, which helps travellers manage their flights directly by mobile
phone.
A four-year contract is signed with the Swedish Football
Association. The contract covers the whole range from flying the men’s
and women’s teams to matches abroad to offering special rates on
domestic flights to all the girls and guys in Swedish football clubs.
At
the end of the year, Malmö Aviation increased the number of departures
on routes from Göteborg and Malmö to Stockholm-Bromma.
2009
A
major upgrade of the aircraft begins where the cabin interior is
replaced and refurbished. Malmö Aviation is certified according to ISO
14001, the environmental management system. Malmö Aviation and
Sverigeflyg launch a unique cooperation and offer a network of ten
domestic destinations from Bromma. Malmö Aviation wins the Grand Travel
Award in the “Best Domestic Transport Company” category and is named
“Best Domestic Airline” by the Business Travel Award.
