Malmö Aviation is eco-certified
The only scheduled airline to have achieved the distinction, Malmö Aviation is now certified according to ISO 14001, the environmental management system. The company sought certification in order to further reinforce environmental efforts at Malmö Aviation and to ensure continual improvements of the environmental performance, primarily by reducing carbon emissions.
ISO 14001 is an international standard used within all categories of business and industry to assure systematic and controlled environmental improvements.
“We are delighted to be able to tell our customers and partners that we have achieved our eco-certification,” says Environmental Manager Ann-Sofie Hörlin at Malmö Aviation. “But it is important to note that we did not go through the process just to get a fancy certificate to hang on the wall. We have set high environmental objectives from the very beginning, which is also why we chose to work with SP Certifiering, one of the most respected certification bodies in Sweden.”
Malmö Aviation sets the environmental objectives in the areas where the company has the most environmental impact: emissions to air, noise, waste and purchasing. The environmental auditors from SP Certifiering reported that Malmö Aviation had very effectively managed to inspire commitment to the process throughout the organization and thus raise the company’s environmental awareness.
“As a traveller, you are simply doing right thing by making environmental demands on your carrier,” says Malmö Aviation CEO Bengt Roswall. “We are managing the reduction of our carbon emission in several ways. Research into renewable biofuels and green flights to minimise carbon emissions are just two concrete examples of how the aviation industry and Malmö Aviation are involved and taking responsibility for our environmental impact. Now that we have lived up to the rigorous standards required to achieve the eco-certification, we can proudly confirm that determined environmental efforts pay off.”
Environmental management according to ISO 14001 is based on preventive, proactive, and long-term environmental efforts, including demands for continual improvements, which includes ongoing and annual auditing of the environmental management system.
“Monitoring and following up our activities and achieving continual improvement of our eco performance is a long-term commitment. We intend to continue reducing and preventing negative environmental impact and the environmental awareness and commitment of our employees is a crucial factor,” concludes Mrs Hörlin.
